Recommended Printers

The Dell printers listed below are approved for SAP (administrative) printing. Go to the Dell website and search on any of the printer model numbers listed below to get more details on the features and specifications. Pricing for MIT is available from the eCAT Dell catalog.

IS&T does not recommend the use of personal printers for administrative work groups.

Recommended laser monochrome printers

Workgroup printing: Dell Laser Printer 5230dn

  • Engine speed: 45 ppm
  • Memory min/max: 128MB standard, expandable to 640MB RAM
  • Duplex: Optional (Included by default)
  • Resolution: 1200 x 1200 dpi
  • Connectivity: USB 2.0, 10/100 Base-T Ethernet, other optional ports available
  • Language and font capabilities: PCL 5e/6 emulation, Postscript Level 3 emulation

Selection criteria

Recommended printers are chosen according to the following criteria that ensure they will work in the MIT environment:

  • Networking capability
  • Duplex printing capability
  • Postscript or PostScript Emulation capability
  • Recommended three-year hardware warranty from manufacturer
  • RAM

Recommended printers come with 32MB of RAM minimum. Increasing RAM will increase printing speeds for larger documents.

Dell-branded printers do not offer 11x17 printing capabilities.
