MIT Orientation
New hires to IS&T are provided with a variety of practical tools and resources that focus on immersing new employees into the MIT/IS&T culture and environment. The following is a set of guidelines and recommendations for managers who are welcoming new staff to IS&T.
IS&T Orientation
In addition to learning about MIT, new hires to IS&T will receive a local departmental orientation that is tailored to familiarizing them with this dynamic organization within the MIT community. The IS&T orientation consists of phased activities:
Prior to Arrival
- It is recommended that prior to the new hire's start date, the Hiring Manager will contact the new employee to discuss logistics for the new employee's first day. The Hiring Manager also may choose a "Buddy" who can be partnered with a new employee, can answer questions, and be an available resource as the new employee gets oriented in his or her role.
- Hiring Manager and/or Buddy organizes new employee's workspace with the Site Team that is located in the building where the new employee's workspace will be.
- Hiring Manager and/or Buddy also works with their local Site Team to establish the new employee on appropriate email/mailing lists.
First Day
- Hiring Manager and/or Buddy greets new employee as per what was agreed upon prior to arrival.
- Hiring Manager and/or Buddy reviews week's schedule with new employee.
- Hiring Manager and/or Buddy makes introductions to team members.
- Hiring Manager and/or Buddy provides ongoing assistance and guidance.
- Supervisor takes new employee and team to lunch (paid for by IS&T).
- Supervisor/Buddy checks in with new employee at end of the day.
