Earlier this month, another school year officially began at MIT with the start of the fall semester. In the weeks leading up to the 2018-2019 academic year, Information Systems and Technology (IS&T), along with the rest of the Institute, worked hard to welcome students back to campus and make their arrival (or return) as smooth as possible.

Since MIT is a place that's all about numbers, here are a handful that capture IS&T's back-to-school efforts:

The number of swag bags IS&T handed out to students at MIT Orientation events (600 of which were given out at the Academic Expo on August 29). The bags contained things like adhesive cell phone wallets, camera covers, and keychain chargers, amongst other goodies. Kids love freebies!

The number of important secure computing tips we printed out and included in each swag bag so students could start the school year on a secure note.

The number of stickers with IS&T's snapcode and other social media handles to be included in swag bags and handed out at back-to-school events. MIT students should follow us to make sure they get important news and information about IT at the ‘Tute.

The number of IS&T t-shirts printed for staff members to wear at back-to-school events (with apologies to the late, great Charles Schulz).

IS&T: We're here to help!

The number of MIT students (both undergrad and graduate) who entered IS&T’s back-to-school raffle and the total number of raffle entries they generated. Students could enter by following us on social media and/or by attending our Computing @ MIT event on Registration Day (September 4) in the Z-Center.

The percentage of the MIT Class of 2022 who entered the back-to-school raffle.

The number of back-to-school raffle winners! Wonder how they celebrated?

The number of people who stopped by Computing @ MIT to learn stuff, grab swag and get devices tagged.

The number of informational areas at Computing @ MIT. Each area that a student visited resulted in another Back-to-School raffle entry!

The number of laptops and tablets tagged with STOP security tags, which help to deter thieves, during Computing @ MIT.

The number of informational videos we created about IT at MIT and played for students at orientation events.

Use desktop firewalls!

12 was also the number of pizzas eaten by IS&T staffers at Computing @ MIT. Hey, we like to eat! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Lunch is served!

Thanks to all who took part in IS&T's back-to-school fun! We're already counting down the days until the MIT2023ers arrive on campus.
