IS&T Ends Support for VMware Fusion 3.x and Workstation 7.x

Information Services & Technology (IS&T) will end support for VMware Fusion 3.x and Workstation 7.x effective immediately. The decision to end support for these applications was based on the following criteria:

  • Availability of VMware Fusion 4.x and Workstation 8.x
  • Performance improvements in Fusion 4.x and Workstation 8.x
  • Security enhancements in Fusion 4.x and Workstation 8.x

 
MIT faculty, staff, and students can download VMware Fusion 4.x and Workstation 8.x free of charge from IS&T’s Available Software website. Installation documentation can be found in the Hermes knowledge base [ Fusion 4 | Workstation 8 ].
 
As a reminder, IS&T strongly recommends a three-year hardware-renewal cycle for all departments, labs, and centers (DLCs). This renewal cycle helps to ensure that machines are current enough to run the software recommended and supported by both IS&T and third-party vendors.
