IS&T continues to roll out a next-generation wireless network across MIT. Since the last status update in August 2009, the deployment has made considerable progress.

Today, MIT's next-generation wireless network spans almost 80 percent of the campus, including nine recently upgraded residence halls. Users of Wi-Fi and mobile devices can now maintain a constant network connection while walking through upgraded buildings and along the Infinite Corridor. Another notable feature of the wireless network is the availability of a guest network (named "MIT GUEST") that provides instant connectivity to campus visitors, without the need for the 15-minute registration cycle or conference codes.

IS&T has set an aggressive rollout plan with targets to complete the remaining six residence halls by late April 2010 and the remaining thirty academic, administrative, and service buildings by early July 2010. As the weather improves, IS&T will work on increasing the availability of wireless network coverage in the larger outdoor spaces, such as Briggs Field and Amherst Alley.
