January 12, 2016: Microsoft is no longer supporting Internet Explorer 8, 9, and 10. IS&T recommends that Internet Explorer 8, 9, and 10 no longer be used. Microsoft has released patches for all supported client operating systems (Windows 7 and later) to upgrade the installed browser to version 11. MIT relies on the web to deliver critical information, services, and applications to members of the MIT community. Among the criteria for determining which browsers are to be supported by IS&T is the support of x.509 digital certificates for accessing secure websites at MIT. The following summarizes the current recommended and supported browsers at MIT.
Important: All web browser versions and critical browser patches should be current with the operating system.
Athena (including Debathena)
Firefox ESR is the recommended and supported web browser for the upcoming fiscal year. To ensure you have the latest version of Firefox, consult your operating system's documentation for performing a security update.
Athena workstations receive these updates automatically.
Safari and Firefox ESR
Internet Explorer and Firefox ESR
iOS 7 or later (on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch): Safari is the recommended and supported web browser.
