Mathematica: Faculty and Staff Licenses

License restrictions

Mathematica is available to MIT faculty and staff for Institute use on MIT-owned machines, and to MIT students for use on student-owned machines. Mathematica is also available at no charge on Athena.

How to obtain: Single faculty and staff

Find out if your department has already purchased unlimited licenses.

Faculty and staff pay $350 per user per year (Compared to $1095 directly from Wolfram).

The $350 price includes:

To place an order, create an MIT SAP internal provider requisition using the following information:

  • Internal Provider: #5500 (IS&T VolSiteLicSfwr Distrbtn)
  • In the delivery text, include the license recipient's email address and the operating system of the machine to be licensed
  • Description: Faculty/Staff Mathematica license
  • G/L: 421925
  • Enter the desired quantity of licenses at $350 each. SAP will automatically calculate the full price
  • Send software-distribution@mit.edu the requisition number
  • No purchase orders are needed

Once the order is completed, you will receive an email confirmation from the Software Distribution team that contains instructions on how to obtain and activate the software.

How to obtain: Department-wide faculty and staff

Annual departmental licenses agre good from July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014.  For $3,500 a year a department may purchase a license that can be used for unlimited installations within that department on MIT-owned computers only.  Future inquiries from within the same department will be referred to the assigned Administrative Contact. Below are the criteria for this type of purchase.

Requirements:

  • You must designate an Administrative contact for your department.  The Administrative contact receives updates, codes, and DVDs from from the Software Distribution team; and tracks and delivers codes to end users in your department only.
  • You must assign at least one person as Technical Support Contact. This contact will have direct access to Wolfram Technical Support, and will offer Mathematica technical support to the MIT community.
