At lynda.mit.edu, the MIT community can access lynda.com’s catalog of courses. Online training from lynda.com is provided free of charge by IS&T to MIT students, faculty, and staff.
Key Features
Each course is taught by an industry expert and consists of multiple short videos which can be watched and replayed at any time.
Effective January 5, 2012, each MIT student, faculty, and staff will now have his or her own individual profile on lynda.com. Arriving at the home page, you will be greeted by name. From the new My Training menu option, you can:
- View your lynda.com history at the course and module level; history will accumulate effective January 5, 2012.
- Create bookmarks for courses and modules of interest
- Receive, print, and email a Certificate of Completion for any course you have viewed in its entirety.

Requirements
To access lynda.com, you will need:
- To be a current MIT student, faculty or staff
- Kerberos ID and Password. An MIT certificate installed on your system makes it easier to access lynda.com, but is not required.
- Internet Explorer 7.0 or above, Firefox 3.0 or above, or Safari 2.0 or above. (Users of 64-bit Internet Explorer 7, please try a different browser)
- JavaScript and Cookies must also be enabled.

Note: Safari users should download QuickTime 7.5.5 or newer to avoid problems with captioning.
Microsoft Windows XP SP2, Microsoft Windows Vista, Microsoft Windows 7, Macintosh OS X or Linux. Windows Media Player version 10 or higher. - In addition, you will need an Internet connection with sufficient bandwidth. Most of the videos will download best with a downstream bandwidth of at least 100Kbps or higher. For some of the larger videos (10mb+) such as the Creative Inspiration titles, we recommend a downstream bandwidth of at least 1,000Kbps or higher for smoothest playback.
Getting Started
To access lynda.com, you must connect to the MIT specific URL: lynda.mit.edu. If you bookmark lynda.com, your bookmark must point to this url. When you connect to this url, you will be required to authenticate, either by certificate or by entering your Kerberos ID and password.
