MIT Stopit
MIT Stopit deals with cases of misuse of MIT's computer systems (stopit@mit.edu).
While Stopit email is monitored regularly, even on most weekends, it is not the appropriate place to send email if you feel threatened. If you feel in danger and/or need to report a crime, contact the MIT Police immediately at x3-1212 (617.253.1212) or by dialing 100 from a MIT phone.
Common Problems and Solutions
- SPAM
MIT offers Spam Quarantine for MIT email. Do not report spam to Stopit. Use MIT Spam Quarantine instead.

Unauthorized sharing of copyrighted materials is against the law. Learn what to do if you receive a DMCA notice. Review IS&T policy for additional information. - Athena Use

When to Send Email to MIT Stopit
Send email to MIT Stopit if:
- You receive:
- harassing or offensive email or instant messages
- mass mailings from a member of the MIT community advertising events or sales
- chain letters.
Note: Be sure to forward the full headers when notifying Stopit about an email complaint. - You are disturbed by:
- offensive images displayed on public work stations
- inappropriate postings to a web page hosted by MIT
- inappropriate behavior in an Athena cluster
- other behavior that you think may be illegal or against IS&T policy or MITnet Rules of Use.
Pursuing Disciplinary Charges
To pursue disciplinary charges, you need to work with the Office of Student Citizenship directly.
