Windows Server Platforms: Supported Network Configurations
At this time, available network options are limited to DLCs whose machines reside on an IS&T-provided and supported MITnet segment, where IP addresses and associated hostnames are centrally-issued and maintained through IS&T.
DLCs for which any of the following are true, are urged to contact IS&T to discuss appropriate solutions addressing their specific needs:
- Office has a private (physical) subnet on or connected to MITnet;
- Office has a private IP address range in the class A 18-network (18.a.b.c), issuing and maintaining its own IP addresses in that range;
- Office has a private DNS subdomain under [*.]mit.edu, issuing and maintaining its own host names within that DNS subdomain;
- Office uses a private ISP (other than MIT/IS&T) to connect to the Internet, and has addresses outside of the class A 18-network (18.a.b.c);
- Machine with which Office works is at an outside agency on a non-MIT network;
- Individual DLC computer is located on a private ISP (other than MIT/IS&T).
Note: There are options available for home computers and roaming/mobile computers (such as notebooks and laptops) running a supported Windows operating system. However, the wealth of ISPs and the diversity among them in port-blocking, firewalling, and IP-sharing policies do not allow for a blanket support statement.
