Set up Dreamweaver 8 for Secure FTP
Before You Set Up
- Before setting up your Dreamweaver 8 SFTP, define your site in Dreamweaver as described under Help>Using Dreamweaver or on the Macromedia site.
- Secure FTP now integrates SSH and, therefore, does not depend on a kerberized connection.
Set up Dreamweaver 8 for Secure FTP
- From the Site menu choose Manage Sites....
Result: The Manage Sites window appears. - If the site already exists, select the desired site. If the site does not exist, click New>Site.
Result: The Site Definition for [site name] window appears. - Click on the Advanced tab, and select Remote Info from the Category pane on the left.
Result: The Remote Info dialog appears. - In the Access dropdown list, select FTP.
Result: The fields shown below appear.

- Select or enter the following:
FTP Host ftp.dialup.mit.edu Host Directory /afs/athena.mit.edu/your-full-path/
Note: The path to a site will differ depending on the location holding the files -- whether it is your personal locker, a course locker or an organization locker. You can read more about a locker type and/or its path.Login Kerberos username Password Kerberos password (See step 7 below.) Use Passive FTP Check this option. Use Firewall Uncheck this option. Use SecureFTP (SFTP) Check this option. Enable file check in
and check outRead about this feature - Click the Test button to test your connection.
- Uncheck the Save box at the Password field. You will be prompted for your password when connecting.
IS&T recommends that you do not save your password because it will remain on the machine, and your personal information could be at risk.
- Click OK in the Site Definition window. Click Done in the Manage Sites window.
- On the Dreamweaver Window menu, select Files. Be sure that Files is checked.
Result: You can now move files securely between the remote site, specified in the Host Directory field above, and your local site.
