iPhone Devices and iPhone OS
IS&T Supports iPhone, iPhone 3G, and iPhone 3GS running iPhone OS 2.0  and higher.

For current information on issues on the iPhone at MIT, see Apple iPhone at MIT Known Issues.

All current iPhone users should upgrade their iPhone software periodically using iTunes, in order to take full advantage of bug fixes and software improvements.

Current Support
IS&T provides limited support for the iPhone at MIT as follows

  • Initial set up and synchronization using iTunes
  • Email configuration
  • Wi-Fi connection to MITnet when on campus
  • Safari web browser
  • Personal certificate installation
  • VPN configuration

System Requirements

The iPhone operating system is integrated into the iPhone device. Below are the MIT requirements for connecting your computer to your iPhone.

Below are the requirements needed in order to run Apple iPhone at MIT.

  • Computer/Processor: Macintosh or Windows with USB 2.0 port
  • Operating System: Macintosh: Mac OS X 10.4.10 or later; Windows: Windows Vista Enterprise with Service Pack 1, or Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3
  • Memory: n/a
  • Disk Space: n/a
  • Additional requirements:
    • iTunes 7.7 or later and an iTunes account on the computer used to initialize and synchronize the iPhone; an iPhone service plan with AT&T.
