About This Version

OpenAFS is the supported AFS client for Red Hat Linux at MIT. Combined with MIT Kerberos for authentication, it allows you to access files in AFS from your Red Hat Linux machine.

Important known issue: Keep the cache partition size below 8GB. The OpenAFS 1.4.1 afsd will segmentation fault instead of starting up if you specify a cache partition size of 8GB or larger.

System Requirements

Below are the requirements needed in order to run OpenAFS 1.4.1 at MIT.

  • Computer/Processor: Intel Pentium III or faster processor (Pentium IV or better recommended)
  • Operating System: Red Hat Enterprise 3 or 4
  • Memory: 256 MB
  • Disk Space: not provided
  • Additional requirements:
    • Kerberos including the mit-krb-config RPM.
