The MIT-customized VPN 4.8 Client software includes the following new features and improvements:
- a customized installer that bundles the MIT profile (for connecting to MITNet)
- solves various e-mail, file sharing, and other network problems for clients connecting from off campus
- utilizes Kerberos authentication---no separate VPN password is needed

This software is made available free of charge to authorized members of the MIT community.
System Requirements
Below are the requirements needed in order to run VPN 4.8 at MIT.
- Computer/Processor: Intel x86, AMD 64 or Intel x86 with EM64T
- Operating System: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 and 5
- Memory: 32 MB RAM
- Disk Space: 50 MB
- Additional requirements:
- TCP/IP installed
- High-speed connection (e.g., cable or DSL)
- Kerberos username and password
Note: If you have not changed Kerberos password since 2001, you will need to change it before connecting to the VPN. - Administrator privileges
