Setting up Filters in Eudora
In order to make it easier to sort out the email you will receive from a comments form, it will be helpful to set up a filter in Eudora so that all the mail from it is automatically moved into a specified mailbox. You will most likely want to include in email a recognizable word that you can use the filter to detect. It is even more helpful to put the word in all caps so that it is not easily confused with regular email. For example, you could set the subject to contain the word FOOBAR, then the filter would search for messages with that word in the subject. For instructions on how to set up the subject of these messages, please see comments form documentation. The process of creating a mailbox and setting up a filter is described below:
- Under the "Mailbox" menu, select "New...".
- Choose an appropriate name for the mailbox and press OK.
- Under the "Tools" menu, select "Filters".
- Click on the "New" button.
- In the box marked "Header" select "Subject:".
- In the text box below that, type the word(s) you are expecting in the subject. In the example from above you would type FOOBAR.
- In the area labeled "Action", select "Move to" or "Transfer to" and then select the mailbox that you created before.
- Under the "File" menu, select "Save".
You have now set up a filter to move all your messages into a specified mailbox. If you have already set up your comment form, you can sit back and wait for the email to come rolling in.
Transferring Mailboxes to Athena
After you have a significant number of messages in your mailbox, you can transfer it to Athena in order to run process-comments on it. Your mailbox will simply be a file residing on your computer in the Eudora directory. On a Windows PC, this will most likely be in your Program Files directory. On a Mac, it will probably be in your Applications folder. Once you have found the mailbox file, you must transfer it to Athena. Note that you must transfer your messages as ascii or text so the carriage returns will render correctly. Please see the WCS FAQ on transferring files.
Running Process Comments
Once you have uploaded the mailbox to Athena, you can run process comments on it as if were a normal mail file. Please see the WCS process comments FAQ for information about running process comments.
