Resources
Many web resources are available to the MIT community
- DCAD - The Departmental Consulting and Application Development team offers on-line information at /services/web/, and in-person support and consultation as well. Additionally, the Web Publishers User Group meets every 4th Thursday at noon at the N42 Demo Center.
- Athena lockers - If you are a member of the MIT community, the web pages you work with may be stored in an Athena locker. Users view your pages by going to an URL like http://web.mit.edu/acserv/toolkit/. This URL tells you that this toolkit resides in a subdirectory of the locker named acserv, which is part of MIT's network.
What are lockers? Files in the Athena system are kept in "lockers" on file servers. A locker is a chunk of space on a file server's hard disk. A file server is a workstation but with more disk space.
How do I request a locker? Request file server space to host web pages by filling out the form at http://web.mit.edu/accounts/www/orglocker.html
Though the content is aimed primarily at managing course material on MIT's Athena network, there is useful information at http://web.mit.edu/accounts/www/LockerGuide.html.
- Usability testing at MIT - MIT's Information Systems has a usability group offering services related to usability and accessibility. They can review your site; work with you in testing with observers, users, and full facilities through the IS Integration lab; or offer consultation services. Detailed information on usability resources at MIT can be found at /usability/.
- PSB - Got graphics? The Publishing Services Bureau is MIT's official publication design broker. If you need quality graphics for your pages, PSB can help you find the expertise you need. Find out more at http://web.mit.edu/psb/index.html
