The MIT Hardware Service Center has reopened in a new space—Building 56, Room 129—with expanded services designed to make technology support more accessible to the community.

A partnership between Information Systems and Technology (IS&T) and ComputerCare, the center provides on-site repair and troubleshooting for computers, including popular brands like Apple, Dell, and Lenovo computers. This marks a shift from the off-campus vendor-based repair process used in past academic years.

New this fall, the center also offers repair services for mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets. IS&T’s computer loaner program continues to operate out of the space, providing temporary devices for those whose computers are being serviced.

“This is a big step forward in making IT support more convenient for the MIT community,” said Kyle Filipe, Senior Director of IT Support Services. “In the past, repairs had to be sent off-campus, but now we can handle most issues right here at MIT.”

The Hardware Service Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Walk-in services are available during those hours, while 24/7 self-service options—including a technology vending machine, MIT ID card printing kiosk, and two high-volume color Pharos printers—are also located in 56-129.

Gaspare LoDuca, Director of Campus IT Services, emphasized the importance of the new location to IS&T’s broader strategy: “The center is part of our ongoing effort to provide reliable, high-quality IT services where the community needs them most. We’re bringing together staffed support and self-service in one space to give people flexibility and choice.”

The Hardware Service Center accepts both MIT-issued and personal devices. While there is no charge for labor, costs may apply for replacement parts.

The new space complements IS&T’s other on-campus and remote support services, including the MIT Atlas Alerts system and 24/7 assistance by phone, email, and chat through the MIT Atlas App.

Community members are invited to visit the new center in 56-129 or contact the IS&T Service Desk at servicedesk@mit.edu or 617-253-1101 for more information.
