Parley Now Available to MIT Faculty, Staff, and Students
March 17, 2026

Following a successful pilot, Information Systems and Technology (IS&T) has announced the full rollout of Parley, a secure, MIT-hosted platform for exploring and using generative AI. Beginning this semester, all MIT students, faculty, and staff can access Parley using their MIT credentials.

Developed as part of MIT’s commitment to responsible, innovative AI use, Parley provides the community with access to multiple leading generative AI models through a single interface — protected with MIT licensing agreements to alleviate concerns of sending data to external systems. All conversations occur in MIT’s secure environment or under the protection of MIT licensing terms, ensuring that content stays private and compliant with Institute data policies.

“The pilot made clear that there’s a strong appetite for AI tools that fit MIT’s culture of experimentation and embrace of emerging technologies,” says Gaspare LoDuca, Vice President for IS&T and Chief Information Officer. “Parley gives people a way to explore multiple powerful AI tools within an MIT framework that provides protections at an enterprise level.”

The Parley pilot, launched in fall 2025, invited a group of faculty, staff, and students to test the platform and share feedback. Participants used the tool for a wide range of tasks — from writing and code generation to summarizing research papers and automating administrative workflows.

“We heard from pilot users that having an MIT-managed option helps them use AI more confidently for learning, teaching, and research,” says Olu Brown, Associate Vice President for Technology. “Making this technology available to our faculty, staff, and students is critical to keeping MIT on the forefront of responsible AI innovation.”

The AI models hosted in Parley include Llama, Gemini, Claude (Opus, Sonnet and Haiku), DALL-E and OpenAI. The Institute plans to evaluate additional models over time. Features include choice of multiple generative AI models and the ability to upload files and images and work with short coding scripts. Importantly, data entered into Parley will not be used to train AI models and is not shared externally.

All MIT users must follow the IS&T’s AI Guidelines when using Parley. To get started, visit https://parley.mit.edu and sign in with your MIT credentials.
