MIT's rapid shift to remote teaching, learning, and working in response to COVID-19 highlighted the critical need for robust, easy-to-use video recording, editing, sharing, and streaming tools for community members to use to bring classes and other aspects of the MIT experience online.

Information Systems and Technology (IS&T) is pleased to announce the availability of the Panopto secure cloud video platform for all MIT faculty, students, staff, and affiliates. Panopto allows anyone with an active MIT Touchstone account to record, edit, caption, store, stream, and share videos and multimedia presentations.

The addition of Panopto enhances the Institute's portfolio of cloud services. Featuring seamless integrations with MIT’s Canvas learning management system and Zoom video conference and collaboration system and an easy-to-use set of tools requiring no specialized equipment, Panopto greatly enhances the ability of community members to create and deliver rich online learning experiences and other video content.

For members of the MIT community – faculty, students, staff, and affiliates – Panopto provides:

  • Unlimited video storage
  • Recording, importing, and editing of video content
  • Captioning of video content
  • Rich integration with Canvas and Zoom
  • Automated video recording and integration with video room and capture systems
  • Unlimited viewing of hosted video content by authenticated members of the MIT community

Get started

To get started, log into MIT's Panopto portal using Touchstone authentication to activate your account, then review and set your preferences.

Activating your Panopto account automatically enables the Zoom integration. New meetings you record to the Zoom cloud will automatically be uploaded to your Panopto account, where you can use Panopto’s editing and sharing features.
